Intro
Hey, I'm Kyle! I've got a range of professional experience from multi-family property management to preparing taxes at a CPA firm to owning my own boutique recruiting agency! My most recent goal is to break into the technology field. I intend this website to be just a quick summation of my work experience and interests. Hopefully it will serve as a better representation of myself then just a plain resume or LinkedIn page.
Tech Experience
I switched over to Linux Desktop fully in 2016 and have not looked back since.
I have used various Debian, Ubuntu, Arch, and Fedora/Red Hat based systems as daily drivers. This means that I have had plenty of practice installing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, backing up/restoring, and converting between all of those flavours of Linux systems.
I have a good grasp on the APT and DNF package managers but never really could get Pacman commands to stick in my head and usually still have to look them up when I need them.
I have used EXT4 file systems in the past but it seems as though everyone is switching to BTRFS so now I daily drive that.
I have spent some limited time exploring FreeBSD but have yet to convert to daily use of it.
I have experience standing up and maintaining a few different publicly accessible server environments for various services for family and friends. Specifically mail servers and xmpp/cloud storage servers. Vultr (affiliate link) has been my main VPS provider of choice.
- Power Mail-In-a-Box - this is a turnkey mail and cloud server solution
- Ejabberd - an XMPP and MQTT server software
- Snikket - in my opinion the easiest and most polished dedicated XMPP server set up that runs in Docker
